By far the #1 Orlando Fishing destination is the
Mosquito Lagoon.
Saltwater fly anglers from around the world travel to experience
Mosquito Lagoon & Indian River. Known as the "REDFISH
CAPITAL OF THE WORLD" These pristine waters are home to some
of the best Redfish flats you can find anywhere in the country.
Located within the boundaries of Canaveral National Seashore and
Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge, these waterways boast
awesome fishing for Redfish, Sea Trout, Black Drum, Snook &
Tarpon. In addition to the excellent fishing you can also have
the oppotunity to observe over 500 species of birds and native
wildlife, including several endangered animals that inhabit the
Mosquito Lagoon waters.
Mosquito Lagoon is home to the largest concentration of Redfish.
Often these fish will have their backs out of the water, tailing
or finning. You can expect to stalk Redfish & Trout in water
as shallow as six inches while sightfishing the Lagoon's expansive
grass flats. The abundant population of Redfish and their eagerness
to take flies has made Mosquito Lagoon Redfish one of the premier
Orlando area fishing targets. World class Redfish over 40lb are
landed each year on the waters of Mosquito Lagoon and it is not
uncommon the see huge schools of "bull" reds numbering
in the hundreds through the summer months. Unlike other destinations,
the breeder Redfish of Mosquito Lagoon never leave this area and
can be targeted year round.
In the spring & summer months the nearshore waters off Port
Canaveral offer triple digit Tarpon, Cobia, Tripletail, Spanish
Mackerel, Sharks, Dolphin & others. The Port itself is an
outstanding nighttime Snook fishery. These “saltwater turbo
charged bass on steroids” will challenge even the most seasoned
angler.
Orlando is home to some of the largest Bass in the country. This
is a premier destination for fly anglers wanting that trophy bass
on fly. Along with largemouth bass you can expect a variety of
bream, perch, ciclids and other exotics.
Winter time bring the acrobatic American Shad to the upper St.
Johns river as they arrive to spawn. The word is out that shad
fishing is great sport. These stout battlers don't give up easily,
and often put on a flashy aerial battle. Couple their strong fight
with a tender mouth, and landing half of the shad you hook can
be an accomplishment.
Orlando Fly Fishing strives to give our clients the experience
of a lifetime and will custom tailor your fishing trip to your
needs and desires. Saltwater or Freshwater, beginner or expert,
Orlando fly fishing and Capt. Bryan will provide the very best
equipment, patient instruction (as needed) and all flies and leaders.
Capt. Bryan hand-ties each one in patterns proven to catch fish.
